oh, it has been a while. We hiked teh Flatirons in Boulder, but i didn’t take pictures.

I hiked up table mountain which is about 5 minutes from home. lots of rock climbing to be done here. there is a person on the bluff and Dener is in the background.  In the second image, this is Golden from the bluff - home is in the distance and Coors brewery is in front.

Today i hiked the Golden Gate Canyon State Park.   this is a sapcucker on an Aspen, and a view of Rocky Mountain National park from the lookout.

After a walk and splash in the stream, we now sit under the shade of a tree in the park. Moka has a frozen raw marrow bone, and i have a thermos of coffee and the internet.  Life is simple.

Thursday June 15, 2006     photos

Decisions, decision..... day hike or overnight trip. it is finally cool out so Moka and I went to the Mt Evans wilderness for a day hike in the Aspen groves. Starting elevation is over 9000’ and we hiked about 2 miles up and managed to not encounter any wild cats. Columbine growing wild!  along with indian paintbrush and some yellow and another white flower. cool gnarled up tree root clumps too. it was actually kind of chilly that high sometimes. refreshing change from our recent 90+ temps.

The return trip took us off I-70 (never take the same route twice!) and back up to 9000+’ through the small old mining town of Central City. nearly all of down town is being revamped, so it was a mess driving through.  some of the old mining entrances are still entact, but boarded up.  i can’t imagine how these people leave this tiny town in the winter. they are tucked tightly in this valley with steep drives in or out.

and again, a new route to explore back to the RV park- Hwy 6.  it follows the Clear Creek, a rapid river used for rafting trips. this windy narrow gorge has towering rocks on both sides and 4-5 tunnels.  no pictures of this as they wouldn’t have done it justice in the harsh daytime light.

Now, of course, Moka is passed out.

Tuesday June 13th, 2006

lots of coffee shops have been found since i don’t have much else to do right now. setting up an interwiew for this week at the DD resource center.  the weather is so strange here.  We start with perfectly clear skies, then clouds develop throughotu the day, temps get into the 90’s. then in the evening we get clouds, high winds, hail, rain, thunder and lightening for about an hour. i already have the itch to jump over the mountans for a couple days. might be cooler there, and soon i will have to buckle down and work for a while. i’ve been working out at the community center a ton since i have the time and now i have access to freeweights.  tonight i have an orientation on the mini climbing wall.  this will add a little excitement and variety to my workout.

i have mostly regular internet now. i broke down and purchased a t-mobile data card. now i can sit here all night on line, rather than one hour per day at a coffee shop.  keeps me busy and is a good way to look for work.

Thursday June 9th, 2006

we got tom off to the airport this morning. I took a new route around town to see what i could find, where i should avoid, where is fun.  and here i am at a cafe near washington park.  very cute, internet access, and a good breakfast scramble.  found a community recreation building in Golden i will join.  gotta get back to lifting, get big again. it has a small climbing area, pool, hot tub, weights, cardio- the works, and it’s a short bike from my home park. found a good dog park yesterday with drinking water for my precious pup.  Meeting up with someone tonight to explore another park with a swimming hole. Tomorrow will be crammed with farmers’ markets and a comedy night at the cafe. practiced shooting some kayakers on the river yesterday and ended up meeting a couple guys who shoot for channel 6.  could be a connection.

Monday June 5th

now i am the bus expert and i am off to visit a coffee shop onthe east side of downtown. i took the connecting bus to the 16 to the 15. walked and walked to the coffee shop which was really cool. coffee, internet, and full bar with comedy night on saturdays. that amounts to a 5 hour bus ride for a cup of coffee.

first bus ride to Denver - sunday June 4th

ah, the bus. i was bored so i ventured into denver on bus. the first connection doesn’t run on sunday so i thought, just walk to the main bus.  that went ok. it was a long hot walk but i got there.  downtown there was a festival that rerouted the buses.  that wasn’t so fun. the guy at the bus stop suggested one bus after another and was convinced this is where is should be ‘they all reroute through here’.  after about 20 minutes, he changed his mind.  ‘maybe you should go to california st.  yah, that’s right’. i figured out WHERE California street WAS, and within about 2 minutes my bus arived.  but again, at my stop, i had to walk a while. i survived.
